Elisa Grezzani was born in 1986 in Bressanone, Italy. She studied painting at the Academy of Art in Urbino, Italy (Marche, 2007–2011). Between 2012 and 2017 she coordinated the educational projects at the Museion in Bolzano and worked as assistant to the artist Robert Pan (2013–2014). She lives and works in South Tyrol.
“Above all, Elisa Grezzani is painter. Her work process is characterized by the repeated superimposition of liquid paint and transparent resin, applied consecutively, layers of liquid. This technique lends depth to her works, charging them with an ambivalence. Wood and paper serve as her painting ground, whereby paint extends to the wood frames. In fact, no frame exists in the traditional sense of the word... The artist’s works are seldom hierarchical or created individually: Grezzani works on several pieces simultaneously and regards the continual and physical movement between her different pieces as integral to her work process. Thus, her painting can be understood as an open system, the fluctuating elements of which strive to expand the painting ground itself. The numerous painted layers lend the works an individual dynamic, and the bursts of color strike the viewer on an emotional and physical level: the force of the expansive paintings lies in their sensuality and material ambiguity.”
